    How to use this tool

    1. Choose a PDF. Select a page and preview it.
    2. Mark rectangles by dragging or enter percentage coordinates and add a rectangle. Review every marked page.
    3. Export a flattened PDF, reopen it and check that all sensitive areas are covered.

    When it helps

    A coloured annotation over text can leave the underlying words recoverable. This tool takes a different approach: it renders the PDF pages to new images, paints opaque black rectangles over the areas you select, then builds a new PDF from those images. The exported copy does not include the original text objects. Rectangles are stored only in this tab until you reset or leave the page.

    A practical example

    Cover an account number in a statement on every page where it appears, then inspect the exported pages at full zoom.

    Before you share the result

    This is manual, image-based redaction, limited to 10 source pages per run. It does not find secrets automatically. You must mark every occurrence, including repeated headers and other pages. Rebuilding removes searchability, links, forms and digital signatures. Keep the original separately and inspect the flattened output before disclosure.

    Keep a separate copy of the source file. Check the downloaded result in the application your recipient will use, especially page order, small text and important numbers. Conversion is not a guarantee that a portal will accept a document.

    Questions about redact pdf

    Is this just an overlay annotation?

    No. The output contains newly rendered page images with the marked pixels covered.

    Will it find personal information automatically?

    No. Selection and final review remain your responsibility.

    Are my files sent to your server?

    The processing code runs in this browser. Input files and generated results are not uploaded by the tool. Visiting the page still makes ordinary requests for site assets, and the hosting server may record those requests. Read the tool privacy explanation.
